Summary: These positions are customer service-centric. Desk Attendants are part of a team that represents the student spirit of Residential Life, serving as the initial contact point through various customer interaction mediums that includes all hall information desks, along with email and phone communication.

Desk Attendants are responsible for the day-to-day operations of the hall information desks. This includes organizing and sorting mail, updating the rosters for the respective hall, managing the keys and room reservations for the respective hall, maintaining the appearance of the desks and lobby areas, facilitating the Room Inventory Condition Checklist process and other functions necessary for the success of the Residential Life. Desk Attendants are an extension of the Residential Life brand and are on hand to offer guidance and information on Residential Life and Mizzou to residents, prospective students, visitors, faculty, staff, administrators and alumni.  

Essential Functions:

  • Desk Attendants will perform some or all of the duties listed below and may be assigned to work in one or more service areas or functions.
  • Provide excellent customer service to all Residential Life residents and visitors by being welcoming and approachable. This includes greeting people when they walk into the hall; smiling; verbally and physically acknowledging people; and taking the initiative to be friendly. Have intentional interactions with residents within the hall and build a relationship with them.
  • Manage the front desk operations. Read and fill out the Communication Log. Complete a shift checklist. Answer the desk phone, and manage the front desk email. Answer the on-call phone for student staff when necessary. Keep the desk, back room and lobby clean and presentable.
  • Organize and sort mail for the respective halls. Help locate and distribute packages that may have been misplaced.
  • Facilitate the Room Inventory and Condition Checklist. Update the roster for the hall. Communicate with the appropriate supervisor when a room move takes place.
  • Serve as a pulse point for communication with administration, full-time support staff and other student staff regarding concerns, suggestions and problems involving the day-to-day operations of Residential Life.
  • Manage room reservations and keys for spaces within the building. Assist with the key kiosk when residents have trouble with their key cards. Check out key cards for IT and Maintenance when needed.
  • Be a brand ambassador for Residential Life and the University of Missouri. Have knowledge of Residential Life and Student Affairs to be an exceptional resource. Refer students to resources on and off campus.

Summary: The primary focus will be to provide assistance in daily operations related to the upkeep of the building’s functionality and operations to provide the best student and guest experience. Tasks are semi-routine and involve manual labor; there are some clerical duties, as well.

Because there is regular contact with students, staff and the general public using the facilities, a positive and courteous attitude is necessary. Work is subject to spot-checking to ensure instructions have been followed and that work is performed thoroughly. 

Essential Functions:

  • Work with management to understand residence hall functionality.
  • Maintain knowledge of furniture and supplies inventory.
  • Assist with moving furniture and equipment, such as lounge pieces, tables, chairs, office furniture, student room furniture and mattresses; signage; and supplies.
  • Notify supervisor of needed furniture repairs. As directed, repair furniture (including fixing/replacing seat pans, installing missing chair/table glides and concealing scratches with a furniture pencil).
  • Deliver items to Surplus and other campus locations.
  • Count, assess and log missing and damaged furniture, appliances, signage and artwork.
  • Provide positive customer service to building users and customers encountered. Ensure all policies and procedures are enforced and that only scheduled activities are taking place. Be a secure presence within facilities. Respond quickly to calls for assistance.
  • Hang signage in the residence halls.
  • Make basic modifications to spaces to meet ADA housing accommodations and to set up for events.
  • Inspect stairwells.
  • Organize storage areas.
  • Attend all meetings and training as required.
  • As with all positions, involvement with other duties and responsibilities is expected in order to serve and maintain our departmental and Student Affairs mission.

Summary: The primary focus of the Facility Coordinator position will be to aid in the daily operations related to the upkeep of the building’s functionality to provide the best student and guest experience.

  • Submit/track warranty claims.
  • Organize and maintain cleanliness of storage rooms.
  • Order/track replacement items (furniture parts, finish materials, signage, etc.).
  • Maintain and track furniture and attic stock.
  • Assist with Surplus paperwork.
  • Select finishes and products for housing design projects.
  • Update and maintain resources used by department staff.
  • Provide positive customer service to residents, staff and guests. Ensure all policies and procedures are enforced and that only scheduled activities are taking place. Be a secure presence within facilities. Respond quickly to calls for assistance.
  • Request quotes for replacement items (for example, chair glides, signage, etc.).
  • Provide budget pricing.
  • Assist in showroom updates.
  • Collaborate with facility students.

Summary: Resident Advisors (RAs) are focused on building community within the residence halls. RAs serve as mentors and leaders within the halls by having a robust knowledge of the University of Missouri and Residential Life. Resident Advisors will connect residents to leadership, service, and involvement opportunities on campus. As agents of the University, Resident Advisors are part of a team that strives to support and know their residents, while also creating a strong sense of belonging within the halls and on campus. Resident Advisors serve as ambassadors for the Department of Residential Life, the Division of Student Affairs and Mizzou and must serve as positive members of the university community while in their positions.

Resident Advisors are a presence in the halls. They are responsible for setting and role modeling expectations on their respective floors by abiding by and enforcing Residential Life and University guidelines and procedures. Resident Advisors help create a positive community in the hall by managing conflict between roommates and residents. They also have a thorough understanding of emergency protocols and the opening and closing procedures.

Resident Advisors are expected to be a positive brand ambassador for Residential Life by communicating the benefits of living in the halls, while also promoting employment opportunities within the department. Resident Advisors assist with contracting in their position; this includes tabling, working, and planning hall events and having conversations with residents about living in Residential Life.

Residential Life is a 365/24/7 operation, and RA presence is required in order to provide exceptional services and experiences for our residents. Resident Advisors may be required to complete tasks in the residence halls during scheduled academic breaks and university closures.

Resident Advisors are required to arrive early in August to participate in annual RA training, Mizzou Move-In, and Welcome Week activities. They are also required to stay late in December and May to assist with closing hall operations for the semester and academic year.

  • Be a presence in the halls by spending time in common areas and being social.
  • Plan and attend events within the hall/neighborhood, and support programs and initiatives put on by Residential Life, Student Affairs and Mizzou.
  • Maintain extensive knowledge about the University of Missouri, academic programs, and involvement opportunities on campus.
  • Connect residents to leadership, service, involvement, and employment opportunities on campus and within the department.
  • Support the academic mission of the University by fostering an integrative learning environment through the facilitation of programming.
  • Collaborate with campus partners and programs to support already existing events and initiatives. Support relationships across campus to avoid duplicating efforts.

  • Manage and mediate conflict between residents and roommates.

On-Call, Operational, and Administrative Responsibilities

  • Provide operational and administrative support for the residence hall.
  • Serve in an on-call duty rotation overnight and as situations arise, with regard to class schedule.
  • Understand and carry out emergency procedures and crisis response.
  • Understand, abide by, and enforce policies and procedures for Residential Life.
  • Be responsible for the cleanliness of communal spaces and, potentially, incidents involving bodily fluids.

Summary: Summer Camp Assistants (SA) primarily focus on assisting groups and organizations within Residential Halls serving as the contact point, providing excellent customer service and engagement, and other functions necessary for the success of the of the Summer Camp program within Residential Life.

A single room will be provided for the duration of appointment.

Essential Functions

  • Provide excellent customer service to all guest and visitors by being welcoming and approachable.
  • Assist with camp arrival, including the check-in and check-out process for all guest. Have intentional interactions with customers and build relationships with them.
  • Encourage ‘lights-out’ as determined by camp schedule.
  • Verify room inventory and condition at the beginning and end of each camp.
  • Assist with building security, ensuring the safety of residents. Assist with emergency situations as necessary and enforce University regulations.
  • As needed, provide Summer Welcome room tours and other duties as assigned by the Residence Hall Coordinator.
  • Although assigned to a specific building, SAs may be required to stay in other buildings at times due to the conference schedule.

Summary: Camp Desk Attendants (CDA) are customer service-centric, serving as the initial contact point through various customer interactions.  Responsible for day to day operations of information desks assisting campers, parents, and the general public. Quality experience had by high school guest and /or parents will aid in recruitment efforts for the campus.

Essential Functions

  • Provide excellent customer service to all Residential Life guest and residents by being welcoming and approachable.  This includes greeting guest when they walk into the hall, smiling, verbally and physically acknowledging people, and taking the initiative to be friendly and have intentional interactions.
  • Coordinate keys and meal card packets for guest staying in spaces within the Residential Life buildings.
  • Handle small amounts of cash for refunds, assist with lost meal cards, and lost keys.   
  • Answers the desk phone and take messages.  Maintain a clean, organized and presentable desk, back room, and lobby area.
  • Assists with camp check-in and check-out, ensuring accurate and complete information in entered in computer programs.
  • Be a brand ambassador for Residential Life and the University of Missouri. Have knowledge of Residential Life and Mizzou to be an exceptional resource. Refer visitors to resources on and off campus.

Summary: This position is designed to be guest centered.  Conference Assistants (CA) are part of a team whose primary responsibilities include desk operations (to include summer welcome housing), room tours and initial contact point through various customer interactions (check in/out, building security, etc.)
 

Essential Functions

  • Desk operations include, but are limited to, answering the desk telephone, taking messages, assisting with check-in and check-out, distributing and forwarding mail, answering questions from residents and the general public, summer welcome room tours, designing bulletin boards, and other duties as assigned by supervisor.
  • Ensure accurate guest rosters, assist with printing labels, maintaining a communication log, key card tracking, guest check in/out.
  • Assist with building security, ensuring the safety of guest. Assist with emergency situations as necessary and enforce University regulations.  Includes duty rotation.
  • Maintain a high level of confidentiality at all times. 
  • Although the CAs may have a primary building assignment, they will also be assigned to other buildings as the conference/summer school schedule requires.

Summary: A Community Assistant (CA) for Tara Apartments will contribute to the Residential Life mission and vision by enhancing the quality of life in their community. They will work directly with students, professional staff, and campus colleagues to foster community and be attentive to the safety and security of their residents. The position requires an individual who is flexible enough to assume a variety of roles as dictated by the changing needs of students. It is crucial that an individual be able to relate well to others and handle administrative responsibilities. The Community Assistant is more than just a friendly presence; they are the crucial link in creating an environment in which students develop independence and learn to live cooperatively with others. Community Assistants are a presence in the apartment complexes. They will be responsible for setting expectations within our apartment complexes and enforcing University and Residential Life policies and procedures. Community Assistants will be a part of creating a positive community through two of six programming and building community within the graduate apartments. They will also need to have a thorough understanding of emergency protocols and opening and closing procedures. Community Assistants are expected to be positive brand ambassadors for Residential Life by communicating the benefits of living in our facilities while also promoting employment opportunities within the department.

  • Provide operational and administrative support for assigned apartment complex. Complete regular facility walk-throughs to ensure there are no issues. Complete room inventory checks and safety checks as directed. Assist with lockouts, check-ins, and check-outs.
  • Understand and carry out emergency procedures and crisis response. Understand, abide by, and enforce policies and procedures for Residential Life. Be responsible for the cleanliness of communal spaces and, potentially, incidents involving bodily fluids.
  • Plan and carry out community events and programs. Plan and attend events within the apartment complex, and support programs and initiatives put on by Residential Life, Student Affairs and Mizzou.
  • Have extensive knowledge about the University of Missouri, academic programs, and involvement opportunities on campus. Be able to connect residents to leadership, service, involvement, and employment opportunities on campus and within the department.
